A Journey to Narkanda – The Road Less Traveled!

Not exactly a tourist destination, a trip to Narkanda offers spectacular views of the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas, some “ME time” away from the chaotic city life and urbanization. Come, be the explorer!

Places to visit in Narkanda Hatu Peak Narkanda is best known for Hatu Peak (10,827 ft). The good news – the trek to Hatu is for those who are not comfortable with rigorous treks. It is an easy 7 km (one way) hike to the top and you can easily return to Narkanda in the same day.

To discover the Hatu Ridge at night, bring a tent and camp. The trek passes through a mixed forest covering the entire range of high altitude conifers: blue pine, deodar, fir and spruce interspersed with the broadleaf moru. Hatu Mata Temple is located on top of a long ridge.
 

Camping at Hatu Mata Temple Once you reach Hatu Mata Temple, all you have to do is sit and relax! Enjoy the green clearing, the view that only a peak in the middle of the mist can give you. There are a camping area and a tea stall where you can prepare your favorite tea!

Camping Jor Bagh An hour’s walk southeast, past the Hatu Mata Temple, then through the forest dominated by oaks takes you to the grassy stretches of Jor Bagh. The place is perfect for camping. If you go back, come back early enough when the light stays on. The beautiful sights are well worth the walk.

Best time to visit Narkanda

Although it is a year-round destination, April to June is said to be the best due to its pleasant weather conditions; Jan to early March are for skiing.

How To Reach The nearest airport is Shimla’s Jubbarhatti Airport (87 km / 4 hrs) and you can easily book a taxi from Shimla for Narkanda. Nearest railway line is Kalka (150 km / 6 hours) and taxi from Kalka costs about INR 3,500 to Narkanda.
